About the African Union (AU) 2025 Internship Program

 

 

The African Union (AU), the continent’s leading intergovernmental organization, is seeking applications for its esteemed 2025 Internship Program. Headquartered in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, the AU embodies the collective aspirations of its 55 Member States for integration, prosperity, and peace. This Internship Program offers invaluable opportunities for university students and recent graduates to acquire practical experience within the AU’s institutional framework.

 

 

As a successor to the Organization of African Unity (OAU), the AU tackles a variety of regional and global issues, including political stability, economic development, health, and social welfare. This program serves as a training ground for aspiring African leaders and professionals eager to gain meaningful experience in a dynamic international setting.

Internship Responsibilities and Focus Areas

 

 

Interns will be placed in various AU departments, assisting with administrative and technical tasks related to ongoing programs and projects. Key responsibilities include:

  • Supporting the preparation of technical reports and documentation
  • Assisting with research and data collection
  • Participating in planning and strategy meetings
  • Contributing to workshops, policy dialogues, and public awareness campaigns
  • Assisting in organizing AU-led events, conferences, and webinars
  • Providing administrative tasks and logistical support within respective directorates

  • Agriculture and Sustainable Environment

Qualifications for Applicants

 

 

Education and Certification:

  • Applicants must be enrolled in the final year of a Bachelor’s degree or hold a postgraduate (Master’s) degree in a relevant field.
  • A background in political science, law, economics, development studies, or international relations is advantageous.
  • Applicants must be nationals of an AU Member State.

 

 

Experience:

  • No prior professional experience is required.
  • Academic achievements and extracurricular involvement will be considered.
  • Volunteer work or participation in student organizations is a plus.

 

 

Required Skills:

  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Strong internet and email communication skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities
  • Ability to thrive in a multicultural environment
  • Knowledge of at least one AU working language: Arabic, English, French, or Portuguese. Fluency in additional AU languages (Spanish, Kiswahili) is a plus.

Additional Information

  • Interns will not receive financial compensation; all living and travel expenses must be covered by the intern.
  • The AU will assist with visa processing but will not cover health insurance, travel, or accommodation.
  • Internships last three months and may be renewed for an additional three months.
  • A motivation letter, academic transcripts, recommendation letter, and valid ID must be submitted with the application.
