UNICEF Venture Fund: Call for Startups Driving Innovation for Women and Girls to secure up to $100,000 in equity-free funding

 

 

The UNICEF Venture Fund seeks innovative startups that utilize cutting-edge technologies to enhance women and girls’ access to quality healthcare, essential services, and socio-economic opportunities. If your startup is developing tech solutions that can drive social impact, this is your chance to secure up to $100,000 in equity-free funding .

 

Who Should Apply the Driving Innovation for Women and Girls?

 

 

This opportunity is open to early-stage, for-profit startups based in low- and middle-income economies. The Fund is particularly interested in startups using frontier technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), data science, blockchain, and more to create scalable, open-source solutions with global relevance.

 

 

 

Priority Groups:

  • Women-led startups are highly encouraged to apply.
  • Young founders under the age of 35 are also strongly encouraged to participate.
 

Focus Areas for Driving Innovation

 

 

The UNICEF Venture Fund is seeking startups working on solutions in three key areas:

 

1. Improving Health Outcomes for Women and Girls

  • Digital health solutions for prevention, diagnosis, and treatment.
  • AI-driven or data-powered platforms addressing maternal, reproductive, and adolescent health.
  • On-demand referral services providing access to healthcare and culturally relevant information.
 

2. Addressing Unique Challenges Faced by Women and Girls

  • Closing the gender data gap to enable inclusive decision-making.
  • Improving accessibility of platforms for underserved communities, including persons with disabilities.
  • Designing solutions tailored to address gender-specific challenges across diverse cultural and economic contexts.
 

3. Empowering Women and Girls Socially and Economically

  • Expanding financial inclusion and access to economic opportunities.
  • Enabling safe access to education, training, and skill-building programs.
  • Supporting agency, decision-making power, and workforce participation for women and girls.
 

Key Characteristics of Ideal Solutions

 

 

To align with the Fund’s mission, your solution should:

  • Work effectively in low-resource environments (e.g., areas with low connectivity, limited smartphone access).
  • Prioritize inclusivity, efficiency, and personalization for women and girls, as well as persons with disabilities.
  • Be available in multiple languages , including less-common and low-resource languages.
  • Use unbiased, representative data and actively mitigate discrimination.
  • Ensure data privacy, security, and user control over personal information.
  • Enable community engagement in the design, management, ownership, and maintenance of the solution.
 

What We’re Looking For

 

 

We are seeking startups that meet the following criteria:

  • Registered in a UNICEF programme country.
  • Working with a functional prototype demonstrating proof of concept.
  • Committed to open-source licensing and principles , ensuring scalability and accessibility of the solution.
