PhD and MSc Fellowship Opportunities

PhD Fellowship Opportunity

As part of our Data Science Without Borders (DSWB) initiative, we are offering a 48-month PhD Fellowship starting in June 2025. This fellowship supports internal staff whose research aligns with the DSWB goals, in collaboration with partners such as Africa CDC and LSHTM across Cameroon, Ethiopia, and Senegal.

Key Responsibilities:

Develop and submit a research proposal aligned with DSWB objectives.
Conduct literature reviews and engage with stakeholders.
Participate in workshops and consortium meetings.
Collect and analyze health-related data.
Document findings for reports and publications.

Eligibility:

Full-time APHRC staff with at least three years at the Center.
Enrolled or eligible for a relevant PhD program.
Experience or strong interest in data science tools (e.g., R, Python).

MSc Fellowship Opportunity

We are also offering a 24-month MSc Fellowship starting in June 2025, aimed at supporting interdisciplinary research in data science, AI/ML, and public health aligned with the DSWB agenda.

Key Responsibilities:

Develop and execute an MSc thesis project aligned with DSWB objectives.
Engage in data harmonization and analysis of real-world datasets.
Create metadata and documentation to support FAIR data sharing.

Eligibility:

Full-time APHRC staff with at least 18 months of service.
Currently enrolled (or eligible for enrollment) in an MSc program in a relevant field.
Proficiency in R, Python, and/or SQL.

Fellowship Support for Both Programs:

Access to relevant datasets and computing resources.
Travel and accommodation support for meetings.
A stipend (subject to funding).
Mentorship from technical experts.
